Bok Chong Vear (Long Knee)
Difficulty: IntermediateAll Strikes
The long knee is delivered from outside the clinch range by stepping forward aggressively and driving the knee into the opponent. It is used to close distance explosively and can transition directly into the clinch after landing.
Steps
- From outside clinch range, take a quick step forward with the lead foot to close distance.
- Drive off the stepping foot and thrust the rear knee forward and upward into the opponent's midsection.
- Reach forward to grab the opponent's head or shoulders as the knee lands, transitioning to clinch control.
- After the knee lands, either establish the clinch or reset to striking range.
Key Points
- The long knee bridges the gap between striking range and clinch range, making it an excellent entry technique.
- The forward momentum of the step adds significant power to the knee strike.
- Combine it with hand control to prevent the opponent from side-stepping the entry.
Common Mistakes
- Reaching too far forward and over-extending, losing balance if the opponent moves laterally.
- Not driving the knee through the target, just tapping rather than impacting.
- Failing to transition to the clinch after the knee, losing the positional advantage gained by closing distance.
Targets
- Solar plexus
- Ribs
- Stomach
- Chest
