Keng Phka (Foot Jab)
Difficulty: IntermediateAll Strikes
The foot jab is a quick, snapping front kick used to disrupt the opponent, score points, and maintain distance. Unlike the teep which pushes, the foot jab snaps back quickly after contact, more like a jab with the foot.
Steps
- From your stance, quickly chamber the lead leg by bringing the knee up.
- Snap the foot out toward the target with a quick extension, striking with the ball of the foot.
- Immediately retract the leg, pulling it back as fast as it went out.
- Return to your stance without any delay, ready for the next technique.
Key Points
- Speed is the defining characteristic — the foot jab must be fast in both directions (out and back).
- It is a scoring technique and disruptor, not a power technique. Prioritize speed and accuracy.
- Use it to interrupt the opponent's rhythm, especially as they start to throw combinations.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving the leg extended too long, allowing the opponent to catch or sweep it.
- Using too much power, which slows the technique down and compromises its primary purpose.
- Not retracting quickly enough, leaving the leg vulnerable and the stance compromised.
Targets
- Face
- Chin
- Solar plexus
- Stomach
