Biography

Chhouk Bundith was revered not only as a skilled fighter but as a guardian of traditional Kun Khmer technique and ceremony. Growing up near Angkor Wat, he trained under one of the last surviving pre-war Kru who had learned the art in its most traditional form. Bundith was known for performing the most elaborate and authentic Wai Kru ceremonies before his fights, preserving dance-like movements that many fighters had simplified or abandoned. His fighting style was deeply rooted in classical Khmer boxing, emphasizing the traditional clinch work, elbow combinations, and ceremonial aspects that distinguish Kun Khmer from other Southeast Asian striking arts. After retiring, he dedicated himself to documenting and teaching traditional techniques, becoming one of the most important figures in Kun Khmer cultural preservation.
